Start Your Day with a Good Breakfast for Great Foot Health

By now, you’ve surely got the message that there is a connection between diet and wellness. But are you still wondering just what you should and shouldn’t eat? Dr. Stavros O. Alexopoulos has some suggestions that will help you start your day with a hearty breakfast to boost the health of your feet, ankles, and lower legs.

Many people enjoy a bowl of cereal for breakfast. If you’re among them, consider your choice carefully. Most breakfast cereals are very high in carbohydrates and refined sugars, which can pose a health risk for people with diabetes. If you just can’t do without your cereal, opt for a variety that is low in sugar and high in fiber and protein.

You know that glass of juice you like to start the day? It’s got plenty of vitamin C, reducing the inflammation associated with plantar fasciitisarthritis, and tendinitis but loaded with sugar. Try swapping it for a bowl of berries or a piece of fruit. If that won’t work for you, you can reduce your portion size or add water to make it less concentrated.

Starting your day with a protein-filled meal will keep you feeling fuller for longer. You can try some eggs and bacon or sausage (or an egg substitute with a turkey or vegetarian side). An omelet or scramble loaded with vegetables is another excellent choice.

Looking to add some calcium to promote bone health and reduce your risk of osteoporosis or a fall-related fracture? Add some cheese to that omelet! Low-sugar, Greek-style yogurt with some granola is another good option.

Make the most of your morning. After your healthy breakfast, head to the gym or go outside and take a walk. When you combine a proper diet with regular exercise, you’re doing the very best thing you can to protect and improve your health. You’ll build endurance and boost cardiovascular capacity while gaining muscle, strengthening bones, improving balance and flexibility, and elevating mood.
