Feet by The Decade: Foot Problems in Your Thirties, Forties, and Beyond

As far as the American Podiatric Medical Association is concerned, about 80% of Americans have experienced a foot problem in their life. Regardless of age, our feet are durable yet fragile body parts that require special care. However, the specific needs and challenges of foot care vary significantly across different age groups.
That’s why today, we at My Chicago Foot Expert will reveal what’s (potentially) in store for your future by discussing the prominent podiatric features of each decade.
Teens (13-19)
During adolescence, the feet continue to grow and develop. Common foot problems in teenagers include flat feet, in-toeing or out-toeing, and Sever’s disease. Issues not resolved by puberty tend to carry into the twenties and adulthood.
Twenties (20-29)
In the twenties, the feet have reached their full growth, but foot problems can still occur. Footwear-related problems (such as those caused by high heels) and athletic injuries are typical as these young adults tend to push their feet to their limits.
Thirties (30-39)
As people enter their thirties, they may start to experience the early signs of aging in their feet. Wear and tear signs like plantar fasciitis could begin to show, as well as deformity formations like bunions.
Forties (40-49)
In the forties, the risk of developing problems increases, especially for those with underlying medical conditions. Common foot issues in this age group include arthritis, neuropathy, and further foot deformity development.
Fifties (50-59)
In the fifties, foot problems that didn’t appear in the thirties and forties most likely catch up. Arthritis, skin changes (such as cracked heels), neuromas, heel pain, and nail changes (such as thickness or discoloration) occur.
Sixties (60-69)
In the sixties, age-related changes in the feet become more pronounced. Foot problems associated with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease become prominent.
Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties (70+)
As a senior, ailments become even more ordinary due to age-related changes. Chronic health conditions continue to cause issues like foot ulcers, infections, circulatory problems, and neuropathy. In addition, falls and fractures become factors in these senior years.
